Brown Shoe Company, Inc. (NYSE: BWS) has appointed Dan Karpel Senior
Vice President - Finance. He will oversee the accounting and financial
reporting areas for the organization.
"Dan's understanding of the apparel and consumer soft goods business
will translate well into the footwear industry," said Senior Vice
President and Chief Financial Officer Mark Hood. "His wealth of
corporate accounting, planning and analysis experience will be terrific
additions to our finance team as we focus on achieving our strategic
growth initiatives."
Karpel brings more than 15 years of corporate finance experience to
Brown Shoe. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Controller for
Kellwood Company, a leading marketer of apparel and consumer goods. In
that role, he managed the corporate accounting functions including tax,
financial planning and analysis and SEC reporting, as well as the
divisional accounting, accounts payable and payroll shared service
functions. Karpel held financial leadership positions with Spartech
Corporation (Director of Planning and Financial Analysis) and Nuvox
Communications, Inc. (Vice President of Finance, Director of Corporate
Finance and Senior Manager, Corporate Finance). He began his career in
public accounting with Ernst & Young where he served as an Audit Manager.
Karpel is a Certified Public Accountant. He received his Bachelor of
Science degree in Accountancy from The University of Missouri-Columbia,
and graduated Cum Laude.
